The North Museum of Nature and Science in Lancaster began its existence as part of F&M College in 1953. It became an independent non-profit in 1992, and throughout all of that, the museum has been a destination for kids to learn about animals, geology, space and different cultures. In late 2014 the museum underwent renovations and recently had its reopening.

The highlights include the SciDome Theater, the Nature Explorer Gallery and a new temporary exhibit space which currently houses Discovering Dinosaurs, an exhibit from the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The Nature Explorer Gallery includes elements of the old Discovery Room and Live Animal Room. It features an aerial photo of Lancaster county embedded into the floor along with depictions of the surrounding waterways.

The SciDome Theater puts the North Museum on the bleeding edge of new technology for its interactive presentations and features.

In the fall of 2015 the museum will open its permanent dinosaur gallery which will feature a lifestyle T-rex skull and others. In the meantime, they have a temporary exhibit form the American Museum of Natural History in New York called Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas.

On April 18-19 the North Museum will be hosting the Gem, Mineral and Fossil show at the Farm and Home Center in Lancaster.
