Written by Cary Burkett, Arts & Culture Desk and WITF Host | Mar 13, 2014 12:17 PM

The Indian Organization of Lancaster County was founded to help promote Indian culture, heritage and traditions while bringing together the fast- growing community of Indians in the area. Their latest event is a festival celebrating India at the Ware Center on March 22. It’s called UTSAV, which means “festival”.

The festival starts at 4 p.m. with a social hour and authentic Indian appetizers like Samosa Chaat (vegetarian savory pastry) and Chicken Chatpata. There’s also an “Incredible India” exhibit in the lobby of the Ware Center, as well as Indian music, comedy and dance (both traditional Indian cultural dances and fusion of Bollywood-style dancing). Rubi Nicholas, of Pakistani descent will present her comedy program. She was selected as Nick at Nite's  "Funniest Mom in America". The evening also includes a full dinner of authentic Indian cuisine.

More details can be found at the website of the Indian Organization of Lancaster County. Deepa Balepur is the President of the organization. N. Rao Sankarmanchi is one of the board members. Below you can hear our interview with the two of them about the upcoming UTSAV.
