The Lancaster Roots & Blues Festival takes place Friday and Saturday, 2/21-22.
Former owner and founder of the Chameleon club in Lancaster Rich Ruoff may have retired from the nightclub business, but he hasn't lost his interest in music. “Then I got married and we started having children and I sold the club because they’re incompatible lifestyles," says Rich. "Young children and going to bed at four in the morning just doesn't work.”
His latest endeavor combines his experience in the music industry with his love of blues music: The Lancaster Roots & Blues Festival on February 21-22. "For the first year we're in five venues, we have nine stages and they're all within in walking distance of each other. And it's all indoors of course because it is February."
Ruoff takes a liberal interpretation of the word "roots" and has included a reggae band, various folk artists, a polka band and some bluegrass as well as blues musicians.
"It's not electronica, it's not metal, it's not punk rock, it's straight-up American music," says Ruoff. "You're getting to watch talent right in front of you. If you go look at a great painting on a wall certainly it moves you, it's impressive, but you don't get to see it being made, whereas in live music you are actually witnessing it being created."
