What makes an art house film different from the usual Hollywood blockbuster?
"With the independent movies and a lot of the foreign films there is no pure hero," says Karen Roberts, co-owner of Zoetropolis Theater in Lancaster. "They're regular people because in life there aren't that many pure heroes."
Zoetroloplis first opened by Leigh Lindsay and a friend back in 1998 and closed in 2003. Leigh, who also owns Fin Hair Salon, was doing Karen's hair when they discovered their mutual interest in film. After some discussion, the two decided to team up to re-open Zoetropolis, and idea that came to fruition last April.
In its new location on the corner of James and Mulberry Streets in Lancaster, Zoetropolis is back not only with foreign and independent films, but also some animated children's movies as well as yoga classes. The cafe just upstairs from the theater serves as a space for socializing, Q&A sessions, music performances and also as a rental space.
