Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Presents New Musical of A Christmas Carol

Written by Cary Burkett, Arts & Culture Desk and WITF Host | Nov 19, 2013 2:03 PM

Lavinia Reid, founder and Artistic Director at the Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Company, has composed a number of original ballets based on familiar stories such as The Little Mermaid and the Gift of the Magi.  Her newest project was to have been a ballet based on Charles Dickens’ famous story of Ebenezer Scrooge, A Christmas Carol.

Somewhere in the creative process, the project grew into a full-blown musical theatre production involving area actors and singers as well as the company dancers and guest artist dancers. Dr. Dennis W. Ritz, Professor of the Department of Theatre and Music Arts at Shippensburg University, has orchestrated the music composed by Lavinia Reid. Ms. Reid also choreographed and designed the costumes for the production.

The Chambersburg Ballet Theatre Company will present two performances of the new work “A Musical Theatre Christmas Carol”, on Saturday, December 7th at 2 and 7 pm at the historic Capitol Theatre, 159 S. Main Street, Chambersburg. Tickets can be purchased online at the Capitol Theatre   or by calling the Theatre Box Office at 717-263-0202.
