PRiMA ARTS "SmashTheBox" Street Theatre Videos

Written by Cary Burkett, Arts & Culture Desk and witf Host | Nov 8, 2012 3:53 PM

Mitchell M. Nugent and his wife, Diana, are co-founders of PRiMA Arts Inc. in Lancaster.  They have a vision for a theatre company which engages the audience in new and innovative ways.  The words you hear most often from Mitch to describe PRiMA Theater are “fresh” and “relevant”.

One of PRiMA’s projects is to create web videos for business clients, which they call the Smash the Box initiative.  Mitch and Diana use their connections with many different arts groups in the area to bring in actors, dancers and videographers to produce creative street theatre and package it for online viewing.  One of their videos, for example, features an Amish family on the streets of Lancaster encountering the music from a boom box carried by an urban passer-by. The Amish at first seem put-off by the music, but then suddenly break into an elaborate hip-hop dance routine.  You can check out the video below. Watch others they've created on the PRiMA website.

Most recently, PRiMa created one of their street-theatre videos promoting the Lancaster County Community Foundation and their Extraordinary Give project. The event is a one-day online marathon taking place on November 30, where donors can log on and contribute to a cause they favor and see their dollars stretched by a quarter-million dollar extra donation from the Foundation. Watch that video below.

Below you can hear our audio feature on the production of the video.
