Written by Cary Burkett, Arts & Culture Desk and WITF Host | Aug 1, 2012 9:03 PM

The Lancaster International Piano Festival offers ten days of recitals, master classes, lectures, a sonata competition and performances by world-renowned pianists from August 11-22. Events and performances will take place at the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center on the Millersville campus and The Ware Center at 42 North Prince Street.  A number of highly regarded pianists and teachers will be brought in to conduct master classes, including Santiago Rodriguez and Hung-Kuan Chen.

Dr. Xun Pan, a noted chamber musician who performs as pianist for the Newstead Trio and for Trio Clavino, is the Artistic Director for the Festival. Dr. Pan is an adjunct professor of Piano at Millersville University as well as visiting professor at China Conservatory of Music and other universities in China. Several students will be coming from China to participate in the Festival, and daily language classes in both Chinese and English will be offered as part of the program.

The event is co-sponsored by Millersville University, collaborating with Music for Everyone and the School District of Lancaster. As part of the program a sonata competition will be held among participating students, the winner of which will perform with the Millersville University Orchestra next year.

A full schedule of all the events is at the Lancaster International Piano Festival website. Some highlights include concerts at the Ware Center by Santiago Rodriguez on Monday, August 13, and by Hung-Kuan Chen on Saturday, August 18. The Sonata Competition is Tuesday, August 14 at the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center.
