Written by Cary Burkett, Arts & Culture Desk and WITF Host | Feb 21, 2012 8:28 PM

The Harrisburg Singers and Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill will sponsor the second American Composer’s Choral Festival on Saturday, March 10. The director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Dr. Mack Wilberg, will be conducting the Harrisburg Singers and a combined choir from nine area churches in some of his best-known arrangements and original works. A fifteen piece orchestra ensemble will accompany the massed choir.  The concert begins at 7:30 in the evening at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mack Wilberg’s arrangements of familiar hymns, carols and American folk songs have been recorded by choral organizations throughout the world, and have been widely hailed. He has also written many original works, and for this event has been commissioned by the Harrisburg Singers to write a new piece which they will premiere at the Choral Festival. Susan Solomon Beckley is director of the Harrisburg Singers.

Area church choirs participating in the event include Camp Hill United Methodist, Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, Christ Presbyterian Church, Derry Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church, Messiah Lutheran Church, The Harrisburg Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Trinity Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church.

Tickets cost $10 and are available at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2000 Chestnut Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011. Tickets may be purchased at the church office Monday - Friday 9:00 Am - 4:00 PM, or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to the church with your request.
