I want to convey my personal and organizational apology to the 1,100 donors of witf who recently received 2011 tax receipts with gift information from other donors.
The receipts were addressed to a particular donor but included the name and gift information of a different donor. No credit card or other financial information was included, and nor was any other identifying information disclosed.
The incorrect receipts were mailed January 23 and the error, which was caused by a mis-sequencing of the print run at witf, was detected on January 25th. Correct receipts were mailed to all donors on January 31st, and a personal letter of apology will follow.
The privacy of our donors’ information is very important to us, and we apologize sincerely for this error. More than 35,000 tax receipts were issued by witf for the 2011 tax year.
In order to prevent this situation from recurring, we plan to simplify and re-design the tax receipts, and to check each receipt individually for correctness.
witf deeply regrets our error and asks our donors to forgive this lapse in our commitment to donor privacy.
Sincerely,
Kathleen A. Pavelko
President and CEO

I so agree with Patti. Numerous gaffes over the past few years - from not receiving any thank you letters, being left off a donor RSVP list - when we DID RSVP. Recently had my card charged for 10X the donation I gave last year without so much as an "is this correct?" call and a chiding from the development staffer. And everytime I hear RSVPA with Allison Graham I want to throw a brick at my radio. Love NPR, but not WITF. You do have other options - WXPN is one.

By the way, wrong photo to put up with this post. Kathleen looks awfully calm and relaxed.

But they have such a great staff to take care of printing and mailing and the magazine. Oh........wait a minute...they fired them all and outsourced them because they bought that new palace of a building.
WITF is like Anna Konikova............looks great but cant perform or win. Sounds to me like the chickens have come home to roost. Give your money to the Red Cross.

The beef I have with WITF is the way announcers disappear with never an explanation or a goodbye. I really liked Craig Cohen and Melanie Hirschorn, and suddenly other people were performing their duties. On NPR, when someone leaves to take another job or an internship is done, there is a warm farewell. On WITF, they just fade away. Those are just the ones who have disappeared within the past year--there have been many others before that.

Thank You Kathleen, for your apology and explanation. I trust the statement is true, and no financial or personal info was shared. Listening to WITF is THE key to my daily commute to work and home again. Personally, Melanie H was my least favorite on-air voice so I didn't wonder where she had gone. It always amuses me when local TV anchors tell us the other anchor has the night off or "worked earlier today". It doesn't occur to me to even wonder about that. Do people really need to know and get offended when their not told??! I have not had problems with WITF like those cited above, so maybe I'm biased, but I think a little forgiveness is in order.
