Written by Arden Bortzfield | Apr 8, 2011 7:15 PM

Harrisburg/Lancaster/York, PA—witf, public media center and valued source of educational, inspiring and creative content in Central PA, is proud to announce its partnership with three regional health systems to launch Facing Cancer Together—an effort to increase the community’s knowledge about cancer. Facing Cancer Together is a community education partnership of witf, Lancaster General Health, PinnacleHealth, WellSpan Health, and also includes more than a dozen associate organizations in the region committed to cancer treatment and support.

Facing Cancer Together will kick off with a webinar on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 12:15pm. The community, volunteers, healthcare providers, associate groups and the press are encouraged to attend the webinar to gain in-depth information and educational resources about cancer.

The Facing Cancer Together program will span over nine months and will include video, audio, print and web resources in six broad areas: cancer treatments; research and policy; living with cancer; cancer prevention; caregivers; and end of life care. With these six areas in mind, Facing Cancer Together will convene the citizens of the region on this immensely important and personal topic of cancer, present trusted experts and information about cancer, and host thoughtful discussions in person, on-air, online and through social media.

Facing Cancer Together is witf’s most ambitious public service effort to date,” said Kathleen Pavelko, president and ceo of witf. “We are honored to partner with PinnacleHealth, WellSpan and Lancaster General in addressing an illness that touches all of our lives.”

Facing Cancer Together will also include an interactive online website (facingcancertogether.witf.org) where users will be able to find cancer basics, information on clinical trials, links to resources, support groups and financial support, plus blogs moderated by cancer specialists, volunteer groups and cancer patients. It will be the on-demand repository for the Facing Cancer Together media content, from video and audio to print. A Digital Quilt will be available online for the community to share stories, celebrate health, memorialize a loved one, or to thank a caregiver or medical professional. The Digital Quilt will connect people through experiences that are unique, and will provide a mosaic that embodies the idea of Facing Cancer Together.
