5/2 Mt. Gretna’s summer concert series has become an annual arts tradition here in Central Pennsylvania. This summer, though, there’s a change – instead of a summer-long series of concerts, Gretna Music will only feature performances in the month of August. Why the change? And what does it mean for Mount Gretna, and for concertgoers? WITF’s Scott Gilbert talks with Michael Murray, director of Gretna Music, about the change.
5/9 Penn State's University Libraries have acquired an important collection of letters, telegrams, postcards, and other correspondence from famed novelist Ernest Hemingway. Some of those letters are now on display at the Paterno Library in State College. WITF’s Scott Detrow spoke recently with the library’s curator, to learn more about Hemingway, and the collection.
5/16 Baltimore-based filmmaker John Waters has built quite the cult following through the years, for audacious and outlandish movies ranging from the original Hairspray to Serial Mom. Waters will be in Harrisburg next weekend, to help celebrate the 10 th anniversary of the Artsfest Film Festival, presented by Filmspeak.com and Moviate. WITF’s Sean Adams talks with Waters about his unconventional approach to filmmaking.
5/23 As ArtsFest takes place this weekend in downtown Harrisburg, WITF turns its focus to the man behind the festival each year, artist Robert Stadnycki. While he’s known as the man who makes ArtsFest succeed, Stadynicki is an accomplished artist in his own right, whose clothing and costume designs are featured in exhibitions all over the United States.
5/30 Next week, the exhibition “Our Body: The Universe Within” comes to Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg. Opening June 7 th, this exhibit will allow Central Pennsylvanians to come face-to-face with the artistry - and the science - of the human body – a dozen of them, actually. WITF learns more about this unusual exhibit.
6/6 The new Pennsylvania Academy of Music opens in Lancaster on June 11 th. WITF’s Dick Strawser recently took a tour of the new facility, and has this report.
